Leeds, the biggest city in the county of Yorkshire, in West Yorkshire is famous for its glorious shopping, colourful nightlife, flourishing schools and sports. There are numerous superb museums, cafes, restaurants and theatres to visit. It is in the middle of the lovely Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire Moors and Top District, with quick access to the traditional city of York and important Spa town of Harrogate.
Leeds has lots to grab the visitors’ attention. As well as the primary sights, museums, studios, parks etc, rambling round the humming city centre to take in the atmosphere and admire the amazing mix of architectural styles from history couple of hundred years is a pleasure in itself. In the city centre, the key districts are the civic quarter, central retail zone, exchange quarter and money district.
There are some engaging buildings as well as natural sites and parks like the one at Roundhay which is roughly seven hundred acres and has gardens, forest, lakes and parkland. Another is Church Newsam that has landscaped grounds around a Tudor Jacobean house. A natural site is Otley Chevin, a ridge overlooking the city of Otley and Fairburn Ings which is a 286 hectare site next to the Aire Stream for the protection of birds in a natural environment.
One of the most outstanding places is the Millennium Square which was built for the year two thousand. It is encircled by many distinguished landmarks and is a place where many events are held. Another square is Leeds City Square which is close to the Old Post Office building and has numerous superb statues, one in bronze, being a replica of the Black Prince.
There's also Park Square which is a stunning Georgian Park and gardens. There are a lot of other stunning old buildings to see and a few of them more contemporary. One being the tallest is the Bridgewater Place that has the nickname, The Dalek. For those planning a trip to Leeds, there are lots of things to see and do in a consequential but modern city.
